The Ultimate Ski Jacket
This ski jacket is made completely from recycled materials! My materials came from old windbreakers and the insulation of a sleeping bag. After purchasing the items secondhand, I disassembled them completely, sorting through the resulting pieces to finding large enough blocks of material to pattern my design on. After patterning the outside of the jacket, I found myself running low on large portions of fabric for the lining, so I patched together the smaller pieces to create the interior of the jacket and an inside pocket. Finally. I used the insulation from the sleeping bag to quilt the jacket lining for warmth.
Process:
Original windbreakers before deconstruction.
New pieces cut for exterior or ski jacket.
Fitting pattern pieces onto fabric after windbreaker deconstruction.
Constructing a lining fabric from small remaining pieces.
Seventies-Inspired Formalwear
Inspired by patterns and textures seen in menswear from the seventies, I created this shirt and vest combination for the modern young man. I paired fabrics that contrasted nicely, adding interest to details such as the collar, chest pocket, and waist belt. In an effort to source materials sustainably, I did not purchase any new fabrics. The fabrics for this project were compiled from remnants I had, pieces found in the scrap bin of my studio, and thrifted fabrics from the Scrap Exchange (a warehouse of donated materials in Durham, NC).
